Auszubildende – Evelyn Vogel erzählt von ihrem Weg als Schlosserin.

A BLOG INTERVIEW by Clarissa Ludwig, student intern in marketing.

Hey everyone! I’m a 14-year-old intern and I conducted an exciting interview with Evelyn Vogel.

She is 17 years old and is completing her training in the field of vehicle engineering at VARIOmobil as a body and vehicle construction mechanic.

I [Clarissa] think it’s really cool that more and more young women are entering traditionally male professions, whether as automotive mechatronics technicians, carpenters or metalworkers! And at VARIOmobil, she works hands-on on really large and amazing motorhomes.

Evelyn told me that she really enjoys working with metal. When she welds, drills or screws, she feels truly alive. “It’s physically demanding, but I like that,” she says. In skilled trades, it’s especially important to enjoy being active and to like working with your hands. Evelyn realized this during her internship at VARIOmobil and immediately knew that the world of skilled trades was right for her.

What I find particularly great: even though Evelyn is the only woman on the team, she does the same work as every colleague. “I feel like I’m treated exactly the same as my male colleagues here,” she explains. This shows that times are changing and that women in technical professions are gaining increasing recognition.

In her second year of training, Evelyn is already allowed to weld on her own! That’s really impressive for a 17-year-old. Her trainer team supports her, and the apprentice in the third year of training acts as both role model and instructor, just like the head of the metalworking department. It’s great to see how important teamwork is in her area. Evelyn emphasizes that working as part of a team plays a major role for her.

“We help each other and learn from one another,”
she says. Her training lasts three and a half years. At the end, she will take the theoretical and practical examinations before the Osnabrück Chamber of Crafts.

Evelyn is a real inspiration for young women who want a technical career! Her courage to pursue a path in a traditionally male profession motivates others to do the same. It’s simply awesome to see how much passion and joy she has for her metalworking trade. It really makes you want to go for it and follow your own path!

Workbench instead of school desk
For her former school in Bohmte, Evelyn manufactured the metal brackets for wooden benches at VARIOmobil. That she returned to her secondary school so soon after graduation was not planned. But it’s amazing how much she has learned in such a short time!

If you want to learn more about women in technical professions, stay tuned!

By the way, VARIOmobil also has a female carpenter in training. And conversely, men have also worked in facility cleaning or office management.

The only thing that matters is that your future profession is fun and suits you.

I myself still have some time to think about my career path and have already gained the impression that marketing might not be my first choice. The many desk tasks and the extensive work at the computer don’t appeal to me that much. However, I can well imagine applying some of the marketing experience I’ve gained to my future profession. And what about you? Where do you see your future visions? An internship at VARIOmobil?

Who knows—maybe the next story will be about you!
