From 28 August to 6 September 2026 the CARAVAN SALON Düsseldorf opens its doors. As the world’s largest caravanning trade fair, it presents the full spectrum of modern leisure vehicles. At Stand C05 in Hall 5, VARIOmobil will showcase its latest high-tech models, including the brand-new model year 2027 landyachts.

A moment that embodies the soul of the motorhome manufactory. Managing Director Frank Mix invited the vehicle construction team to an extraordinary celebration after work. In addition to the successful financial year-end, the occasion marked the

recognition of long-serving employees

Graduate engineer Heiko Hülsmann, 25 years in German engineering at VARIOmobil, gave the floor to his colleague that evening. We are talking about Jana Michaelis, who has been a permanent employee at VARIOmobil for ten years. In fact, she has been part of the company for twelve years if her two-year apprenticeship as an office administrator is included.

Jana Michaelis is an excellent example of the high quality of training at the Bohmte motorhome manufactory. Over the years, she has developed into a true all-rounder across all departments and today heads the secretariat, manages accounting and human resources, and also serves as assistant to the management. Her commitment and professional expertise are indispensable for the smooth functioning of VARIOmobil’s administrative processes. Since joining the company, she has consistently continued to develop and, with her positive attitude, has made an important contribution to the company’s positive development.

Graduate engineer Heiko Hülsmann will also be honored this year for his 25 years with the company at a separate celebration round in motorhome production. Hülsmann, who already made a

Diploma thesis on “Development, design and manufacture of a passenger car loading ramp for motorhomes”

in the late 1990s, made a pioneering contribution to expanding the comfort of a VARIOmobil. He is another example of long-term employment and successful cooperation with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. His own diploma thesis and many others that he supervised at VARIOmobil brought fresh ideas and new momentum to the company’s development. The design and sale of high-tech motorhomes and business vehicles would be unthinkable without Heiko Hülsmann. “Form follows function” is his motto, and German engineering is in his blood. On the German Television YouTube channel, he appears on camera for VARIOmobil, passionately explaining his convictions about comfortable and consistently high-tech vehicle construction in manufactory quality.

The celebration took place at a very special location: the pavilion at the Bohmte company headquarters on the B 51, which is usually used as a showroom for large land yachts. On this evening, however, it was festively illuminated and transformed into an atmospheric event location that perfectly suited the occasion.
It was an evening full of gratitude and appreciation. VARIOmobil employees, along with company founder Bernhard Rothgänger, who has always led vehicle construction in Bohmte with passion and expertise, took the opportunity to discuss the company’s development and past years. In relaxed conversations with the workforce, there was plenty to talk about and plenty of laughter as well—a reminder of how important personal interaction is at VARIOmobil. A cool blond beer—poured by graduate engineer Heiko Hülsmann—and high-proof spirits served by Managing Director Frank Mix… the fun factor of 10 out of 10 is never neglected within the VARIOmobil team.

Culinary highlight 

of the evening was the gala buffet, featuring a wonderful selection of antipasti and a wide variety of dishes. The real favorite, however, was the “all-you-can-eat” roulades, traditionally served with red cabbage, dumplings and potatoes—a true delight for the guests and the perfect dish to strengthen the team and set the foundation for a shared celebration.

Over the years, Jana Michaelis has not only become a highly competent professional within the company, but also a valued and popular team member. Her work behind the scenes ensures smooth operations, giving her a significant share in VARIOmobil’s success. Just one year ago, she took on the interface role between management and workforce. The leap into cold water was seamless. The recognition by Managing Director Frank Mix was a well-deserved moment to thank her for all the years of dedication and commitment.

VARIOmobil has always relied on a strong team that sticks together and achieves success together. The celebration marking the anniversaries of Jana Michaelis and Heiko Hülsmann was a wonderful example of the family-oriented and respectful culture cultivated at VARIOmobil—and another sign that the company not only builds extraordinary motorhomes, but also fosters a special working environment.

and a delicious barbecue at the VOC Pavilion. It was inspiring for everyone to see old friends again and make new acquaintances.

Friday was entirely dedicated to Mercedes-Benz. After a warm welcome by Frederik Neises, we experienced—with our tour guides—the fascination of unique trucks and manufacturing processes. It was an impressive factory tour that gave us deep insights into production processes and the latest technologies. Particularly fascinating was the visit to the EE Center, the CKD area and the test track. The day concluded with an informative presentation on electromobility at Mercedes-Benz Trucks and, for many, diesel conversations at the VOC Pavilion.

On Saturday, we explored the German Wine Route. Visiting the historic Hambach Castle and the Geilweilerhof was a special highlight. The subsequent wine tasting at the Wilhelmshof winery was not only educational but also a treat for all the senses. The shared dinner at the Johanneshof winery provided the perfect finale to this eventful day among VARIOmobil owners.

On Sunday morning, we enjoyed one last breakfast with bread roll service and shared technical discussions before saying goodbye and setting off on our individual journeys home.

Many thanks to everyone who made this gathering an unforgettable experience! We are already looking forward to the next meeting—likely during Advent.

At the invitation of the VOC and with the loving organization of the VARIO Alkoven Albatros crew, the time has almost come: VARIOmobil owners will meet from 8–10 March 2024 for the VOC Spring at the Mercedes-Benz production site in Wörth am Rhein.

Exploring the sun-drenched region of the Wine Route beyond the caravan theme is already a delight in itself. The mild climate and the attractive mix of vineyards, vast grape landscapes and sun-facing slopes are a pleasure, the wine tasting at the Wilhelmshof estate a must. Palatinate cuisine at the Johanneshof in the sunshine is another highlight.

With our tour guides, we experience the fascination of unique trucks and manufacturing processes, visit the EVZ including the test track, and attend a presentation on electromobility. Lunch in the factory canteen. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on this day.

Around 7:00 p.m. at our parking area: chilli con carne – the classic soul food from Feinkosthaus Schlacke. Afterwards, “diesel talks” at the VOC pavilion. Mulled wine and beer will be available. Please bring any additional drinks yourself.

The largest land yachts in the world 

met for the autumn season opening.

At the invitation of land yachting hosts Gerti and Jörg, the most exclusive land yacht brands gathered at Porto Patriziale. At the end of September, the giants of the premium motorhome segment took up residence in Ascona. The picturesque marina is perfectly suited to this class of motorhomes. Set against a dreamlike backdrop, the most exclusive dream vehicles were presented live at this unique high-end camper event. Among them: exciting exhibitors ranging from Airstream to VARIOmobil, from high-tech and premium accessories to representatives of some of the most beautiful travel destinations.

This international motorhome show is an outstanding premium event with no comparable counterpart in Europe. Visitors were able to see motorhome innovations for 2024. The atmosphere was correspondingly relaxed, enhanced by a gigantic panoramic setting. In short: an immense blue of Lake Maggiore and the sunny green of the panoramic peaks of Monte Gambarogna. Nevertheless, the astonished visitors’ attention was focused solely on the exhibited motorhomes.

“Away from the caravan theme, travelling to the sun lounge of Switzerland is simply wonderful. The Mediterranean climate and the sunny combination of mountains, vast lake scenery and palm trees are a delight. Experiencing the dreamlike marina as a location is, in itself, a pure travel experience,” said Nicolas Mix. He represented the family-owned company, VARIOmobil Fahrzeugbau GmbH from northern Germany, at Lake Maggiore.

High-tech land yachting | The best in motorhome quality, design and craftsmanship

VARIOmobil, the motorhome manufactory and exclusive land yachting brand, is a leader in the high-end caravaning segment. Under the land yachting motto “good alone – better together!”, the Mix family skilfully connected within the premium network. “Experts from the motorhome industry casually shared the best aspects of the camper world here: the time to exchange expertise, to get to know each other on a personal level – not only as exhibitors. Combined with a truly successful blend of show and location. Land yachting opened the show in a prime location in Ascona. The fantastic ambience, excellent cuisine and magnificent panoramic backdrop were unique. And of course, the many exciting conversations and topics – even beyond caravan talk,” Mix continued.

“Not to be forgotten: a thank you to the land yachting organisers. Great atmosphere and wonderful togetherness marked the first high-end motorhome show on the shores of Lake Maggiore.”

“A camper’s curse is rain and visitors,” as the saying goes. “Rain is manageable,” but at the opening of the event in Porto Patriziale it turned into a torrential challenge. Thus, the press day was dominated entirely by water. It rained until late afternoon and thunderstorms continued into the night. Bright as day, accompanied by thunderclaps. Torrents of water rushed down from the mountains. Nevertheless, the land yachting guests enjoyed the unique flying buffet in an informative and cheerfully good-humoured mood. The exquisite catering was served from a food truck – half indoors, half outdoors. At night, no camper managed to sleep: the thunderstorm front was a natural spectacle without equal. Afterwards, sunny weather returned with no further caprices.

10 days at the lake in the VARIO Perfect 1000 | Fully electrically supplied by solar energy

Not only did the weather in Ascona improve day by day. At the same time, the charge levels of the extensive onboard battery management system of the VARIO Perfect steadily increased. Likewise, the exhibition areas filled with people. Local visitors and travellers from afar stopped by. From “aha” moments to genuine “wow” effects, the marina was buzzing with a mix of high-tech campers and land yachting newcomers. Even though boats are usually showcased in marinas, the XXL motorhomes attracted attention, were explored and tested for suitability. Many enthusiastic visitors had never before seen such high-end land-road motorhome giants as exclusive travel vehicles.

As the event drew to a close, a magnificent sunset over the lake with views of the mountains enchanted the motorhome enthusiasts – a truly picturesque panorama at the adjacent beach club.

VARIOmobil expands the diversity

of the fully integrated motorhome VARIO Perfect. The flagship of VARIOmobil ranges from 8 to 12 m in length and from 7.5 to 26 t in weight. Powerful Mercedes-Benz and MAN chassis, individual layouts with up to four slide-outs and exceptional luxury define this series. From a vehicle length of 8 m, a 7.5-ton exclusive motorhome with full comfort is available, featuring solid wood interiors, the new “bentART design” in knotty oak “silver” and ceramic flooring. Individually built on the MAN TGL 8.220 / EUR 530,013,-, it presents itself inside and out in a modern high-tech finish with the distinctive new Perfect front.

From VARIO Perfect 900 onwards, a slide-out is included, available on the 12-ton Atego 1230 chassis with 220 kW (299 hp). The most powerful chassis in this class is the Mercedes Actros 1853 with 530 hp and ActiveDriveAssist for partially automated driving. From a vehicle length of 10 m, an XL support vehicle can be carried on board, for example in the displayed VARIO Perfect 1000 on MB Actros 1853. The VARIO Perfect 1200 on MB Actros 2653 combines high-tech comfort with PLATINUM design and offers the motorhome owner not only sensational four slide-outs on three axles, but also the highest level of living comfort. Genuine craftsmanship is evident in every detail. On board: a Mercedes-Benz AMG Black Series with 730 hp, 325 km/h top speed, carbon rear wing and road approval.

Naturally, VARIOmobil also offers semi-integrated motorhomes with original manufacturer cabs in the luxury classes VARIO Alkoven and VARIO Signature. The VARIO Alkoven presents itself as a space miracle with full comfort. The family motorhome is built in lengths from 7.5 to 12 m on chassis ranging from 7.5 to 26 tons. The VARIO Alkoven offers two separate sleeping areas with at least four permanent beds. In addition, a BMW Mini for four passengers fits into the car garage.

As unique as a handwritten signature is the distinctive VARIO Signature. This character-strong exclusive motorhome is built in lengths of 10.5 and 12 m on MB Actros chassis from 18 to 26 t, with a vehicle width of 2.55 m. As a semi-integrated vehicle, it still offers all the advantages of a fully integrated interior. The striking front and XXL driver’s cab with laterally sliding second row of seats for fourfold pilot comfort merge into a visual unit. On top: pneumatically sealed slide-out, aerodynamic roof spoiler, sporty stainless-steel exhaust outlets, comprehensive driver assistance systems and a large car garage for a convertible and e-bikes.
